Analyzing the sky's the limit

I suprisingly had a really fun time writting this paper. I guess to start with I was already so fascinated by this installation piece by Michael Hayden that the more reasearch I did for the paper, the more interested I got. I think this was a great assignment, just because it allowed use to wok on a project that already we had some interest in. I have posted this picture before of Hayden's work but I found really clear pictures this time.

this is one of the more creative works that knowhivaids.ord has done. I just love the way they have used art to make the advert more creative.

my inspiration

as I talked about in my advertising statement, alot of my work was based on social issues especially HIV and as part of my reasearch I drew alof of ideas and inspiration from an organization that deals with primarily advocating to get tested for HIV and I though I would share that. they have lots of cool ads and everyone should go check out their website.

class on Monday

I really enjoyed the video we watched in class India time. I also really enjoyed the discussion we had following the movie. I realised that I'm also a visual person and I enjoy the documentaries without narration like India time. I like to intepret on my own what is going on rather that someone in the background talking explaining the scene. I guess I'm coming from the same place as Lori. I just enjoy to watch the images and the sound and do the intepretation on my own.
Hopefully we'll get to see the rest of that documentary before the semester is over, If not I would probably want to borrow it and finish watching it. I found it rather stimulating and interesting to watch.

One of his projects is the one at Ohare airport and its really fascinating, for those of you that have had a chance to check it out. If not next time you are in Ohare look out for his work.

Margaret Otieno -Sculptor

I started sculpting in 1996, introduced by one Elija Ogira, one of Kenyas top sculptors. Before then I was a painter, having discoverded 3D, I downed the painting materials and have had no regrets so far.
My work mainly captures the human form in abstract. I work mainly in wood (my first 3D medium), stone and recently metal. I have of late been combining the media together. Recently I have also tried my hand in wood-cut prints, which i have enjoyed so far and is seriously taking up.

Kenyan art

Well I'm moving away from New media art to share with the rest of the class, some Kenyan artists and their work. I'm from Kenya and alot of the artists,there are primarily sculptors, but many of them paint on batik and this is actually my favourite art work is on batik.
I'll feature one of the artists thats does all his work on batik.

MARTIN OTIENO
Batik artist Martin Otieno learnt the basics in batik art at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) institute. Otieno chose to specialize in Batik art and upon completion of his course; he undertook solo exhibitions in tourist hot spots like Serena Beach Hotel, Robinson Baobab Resort and Intercontinental Hotel – all in Mombasa, Kenya. His work has also featured at group exhibitions in Uganda; the Ministry of Culture, the British Council and International Hotel, Nairobi.
