Marcel Duchamp

"The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -Marcel Duchamp

Marcel is described as one of the Fluxus ancestors. I think he fits this description because as mentioned in the article a Fluxus is one that can be an artisit and at the same time an idustrialist or a designer.

On Mariana's page is an example of one of Marcel Duchamps piece. A urinal art that he named fountain.

art from the past decade

from the reading I came across this phrase " it is too soon to tell whether much interesting art will emerge from the technologies of the past decades."
I guess my immediate reaction went to advertising and in particular the geico ads. I think that is a good example of how art from the past decade is emerging and being used currently. Who would think that in this century we would see cavemen being depicted in advertising especially with all the advanced advertsing there is out there will all the cool graphics.
But in a way I think it maintains the simplistic nature that Fluxus is all about. I don't think the Geico ads would have been as memorable or humourous as they are now if the used just the ordinary man.
